Climate Monitoring and the Climate Effects Network

Western climate trends. The purpose of the Climate Monitoring and the Climate Effects Network is to provide a network of long term climate monitoring sites for resource managers to help integrate their data into various federal, state, and tribal databases, as well as provide access to various climate data and services. Integration of these efforts of the team with the USGS’s Climate Effects Network will especially utilize the network’s ability to analyze data, identify missing components, and strategically target additional, local efforts. This team will provide support for cooperators in establishment and maintenance of climatological, meteorological, hydrological, and related field equipment, as well as in accessing and analyzing data, and assisting in trend reporting.

Following recommendations provided by USGS scientists, resource managers, national partners, and the DOI Climate Change Taskforce, the Climate Monitoring and Climate Effects Network will enable DOI and other Federal, State, and local resource managers and decision makers to proactively adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change on managed resources. Through this network, USGS researchers and resource managers will track environmental indicators linked to climate change causes and effects. Science applications and related data from the network will support the development of scenario-based and forecast-based decision support tools for DOI resource and land managers across the Northern Rocky Mountain region and State and Federal policymakers.
