Education

Ph.D. Ecology. 2010. University of Montana, Missoula, MT

M.S. Science Education. 2004. Teton Science School, Kelly, WY

B.A. Environmental Biology and English. 2002. Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH

Expertise:

  • Invasive species biology, conservation biology, aquatic ecology, and stream restoration
  • Using stable isotopes to track movements and energy flow across space
  • Capture-mark-recapture estimation of population size and movement dynamics
  • Landscape genetics to infer population spatial structure and identify movement barriers
  • Occupancy modeling

Research Interests: I work collaboratively with Jackson Gross (USGS NOROCK) and Andrew Ray (USGS NOROCK) to design and test alternative strategies for suppressing aquatic invasive species. My focus is to develop strong and robust field experiments that allow us to quantify the effectiveness of our suppression strategies on target and non-target biota. More often than not, these replicated field experiments also allow us to advance scientific understanding of the impacts of invaders on ecosystem structure and function.
